2025 Iowa Adult Education and Literacy Summer Conference
Wednesday July 16, 2025 11:35am - 12:35pm CDT
At the program level, two nitty-gritty and perennial questions persist. First: How can a program director or materials coordinator easily and reliably estimate the difficulty of reading texts that learners are asked to use for reading fluency and comprehension building? Second: What are some basic measures that can be established for individual learners/readers over time that show achievement and/or areas of reading that still need work? The presenter will introduce tools and strategies that answer both questions, introducing the use of as little-known language use frameworks such as the Common European Framework of Reference, which establishes common ground for describing desired program outcomes. Participant input and commentary will be encouraged and welcomed.
